Codes vs Accounts on Xbox: What’s the Difference and Which One Should You Get? 🎮💡
When you buy a game or Xbox subscription, you’ll usually get one of two things: a code that you redeem on your own account, or an account that already has the game or subscription. So what’s the difference? Which is better for you? Let’s break it down in the simplest way.
What’s a Code? 🎟️
A code is a string of characters that you redeem on your own Xbox account using the website or the console. Once redeemed, you can download the game or activate the subscription directly, without adding any external accounts to your device.
What About Accounts? 🧑💻
An account comes with an email and password. You add it as a new user to your Xbox console, and follow a few steps to access the games or subscriptions linked to that account.
Types of Xbox Accounts 🧩
There are 3 main types:
1- Full Account 🔐
This is a complete account that belongs to you entirely. You can change the login info, set it as Home, and also use it as a Sign-In account. You’re fully in control of it.
2- Sign-In Account 🌐
You must be online and signed in to this account before playing. Once signed in, you can switch to your personal profile and continue playing, as long as the main account was logged in first.
3- Home Account 🏠
If the account is set as Home on your Xbox, you can play its games or use its subscriptions from any profile on the device — even offline — without signing into the account every time.
How to Add the Account and Set It as Home? ⚙️
- Go to “Add new” from your Xbox profile menu.
- Enter the email and password we provided.
- If any pop-up messages appear, just skip or press “No”.
- Once inside, go to Settings > General > Personalization > My Home Xbox.
- Select “Make this my home Xbox”.
- After that, remove the account and play using your own profile.
How to Download the Game from the Account? 🎮⬇️
Go to My Games & Apps > Full Library > All Owned Games. If it’s a subscription account, you’ll find all the games under the subscription section (like Game Pass), ready for download.

Visit https://redeem.microsoft.com and enter your code. Just make sure your VPN is active and connected to the correct region.
3- Still Not Working? 🛠️
Check if your Xbox account region is set to Egypt. If so, go to this page, sign in, and change the region to USA. Save, wait 1–2 minutes, refresh the page to confirm the change, then go back and redeem the code again.
